MidAmerica health forum: Apple’s ResearchKit, data and new technology

Chris Boone likes to refer to himself as a “data hippie.”
Boone, executive director of the Washington-based Health Data Consortium, discussed the “liberation of health data” and the challenges therein Wednesday at the MidAmerica Healthcare Venture Forum at the Fairmont Chicago. He also said he saw promising news in Apple’s ResearchKit announcement this week.
Boone’s organization is a public-private partnership that focuses on availability and innovative use of health data to help health and healthcare.
“We’re seeing more and more health data being generated by [new] technologies,” Boone said. “At the same time, it’s creating enormous opportunity for many of the investors and innovators to really think about new business models, new technologies, new ways of thinking about healthcare that historically we’d never thought about before.”
